Career
Initially, Chasten worked at Cherry Republic, a cherry-products store, as a teenager. After completing college, he moved to Milwaukee and worked as a Teaching Artist for First Stage and in local classrooms. During his graduate studies, he also worked as a substitute teacher in Chicago and South Bend public schools. Chasten then started teaching junior high humanities at Montessori Academy in Mishawaka, Indiana, in the fall of 2017. Additionally, he teaches theater and founded a diversity club. As of January 2019, he was named Director of Curriculum at South Bend Civic Theatre.
As an Author
Chasten is also an avid writer. “I Have Something to Tell You”, Chasten’s debut memoir, was published on September 1, 2020. On The New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover nonfiction, his book debuted at number 12 with the hardcover edition. Besides, he disclosed in his memoir in 2020 that he was sexually abused when he was 18 by a friend of a friend and that the incident left him humiliated for years.
