Career and Olympics – How Yared Ended Up Being an Athlete

The talented runner started his career in high school after his PE teacher saw him running during PE. His PE teacher saw his potential and recommended him to the coach of the track and field team.

Once he joined the team, he realized that he could run. Though it was not his idea, he started liking running and also other athletes on the track.

He then decided to continue his career on the track. He had a great high school athletic career, which he continued even in college.

Once in college, he started to run for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. During this time, he became the USATF Junior U20 champion in 1500m in 2018. The same year, he also won silver in the distance medley relay in the NCAA Indoor championship.

His record was broken by athlete Cole Hocker.

He continued his success the following year also. He won gold during the NCAA Championships in both 1500m and distance medley relay.

After adding one after another win to his list, he tried for the 2020 US Olympics trial and made a spot in the team by winning third place in 1500m.

However, he had to drop out from the Olympics after suffering from strain in his quadriceps. Despite losing his chance to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he is still hopeful for the next Olympics and looking forward to it.
