Annie Personal Life and Family

Kunz was born in Denver in Colorado, to parents Terry and Nancy. She grew up in her hometown along with her brother and sister.

She and her siblings grew up in an athletic family. Her grandfather was the captain of a football team, while her grandmother was head cheerleader.

Even her father, Terry, had a prominent career in sports. He was a state champion high school hudler and a high jumper.

Later he shifted from being a field athlete to being an NFL Player. He played for the Oakland Raiders and even won the Superbowl with his team. To this date, his team is considered one of the greatest teams in NFL history.

However, he had to give up his career as a footballer because of a knee injury. Though he retired, he passed his legacies to his children.

Kunz followed the footsteps of her father and started track when she was just three years old. Though she was still a child, she was way taller and looked older for her age.

With time she started playing soccer and even won many championships. While she was playing soccer, she was also involved in the heptathlon. Her high school coach was the one who noticed her talent in the field and predicted that someday she would be part of the Olympics.

Once Kunz was in college, she changed her focus to being a track and field athlete rather than a soccer player and started to train for it.

She got equal appreciation on the track as she got on the soccer field. Kunz took part in many competitions and kept growing as a better athlete.

However, in 2019 she felt out of place after hurting her heels in a hurdle and getting disqualified. She was already down, and then the pandemic started.

It made things harder for her, but she did not give up. She took help from a nutritional program and took mental coaching, and brought her ace game back.

She took part in the trial games and qualified for the 2020 Olympics. She also got the highest score during the trial games that no heptathlon athlete has ever scored. Kendall Williams came second and Erica Bougard came third in the trial.

Besides her athletic career, Kunz also is the brand ambassador for the attire brand Balance Athletica.

Once high school was over, she joined Texas A&M University. The university offered her a sports scholarship in football. It also allowed her to continue her career as a track and field athlete.

Career

Kunz started her sports career at a very early age. At the early age of ten, she already has qualified for the National Junior Olympic to compete in track and field. Though she did not win the championship, she still came in second place.

She even started playing soccer as the time passed and became good at it. In 2009 and 2010, her team won the state championship. She also got the title of the female of the year in Colorado four times.

She had a successful career in soccer, but she was also pursuing her career in track and field. She is the ten-time state track and field medalist who also received the Gatorade player of the year for two years in a row.

As the time passed, she shifted her focus more into her career as a track and field athlete. She took part in many championships and established herself as one of the star track and field athletes. She even won gold in pentathlon during the combined indoor events organized by USATF just last year.

Her career got more highlighted after she won in the Olympic Trial games held in Eugene. It secured her spot in the national team and made her the fifth-best heptathlon athlete.
