He held the record for being the fastest under-18 sprinter on June 27, 2021, during the US Olympic Trials. He then held another record for being the fastest under-20 sprinter in the 200-meter race with 19.49 seconds (April 30, 2022).

Career

Knighton initially used to play football as the wide receiver for his high school team. But later, he switched to track and field following the advice given by his coach.

After switching to track, he started running in many competitions by specializing in 100m and 200m games.

He started competing in track for his high school. During his initial games, he participated in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic, and he became the second-fastest under-18 runner in history with 20.33 seconds as his time.

He became a natural runner and eventually got sponsored by Adidas at the very early age of sixteen. 

He signed the contract in 2024, and in the same year, he wrote history in 200m games.

He broke the under-18 record set by the greatest sprinter Usain Bolt with his time of 20.11 seconds.

It was just the beginning as Knighton again broke another of the records set by Usain Bolt during the semi-final of the Olympic trials. He completed the 200m semi-final game with a time of 19.88 seconds. It broke the under-20 record that previously belonged to Bolt. 

Knighton kept astonishing the audience during the trial and secured his place in the national team by winning third place in the final with 19.84 seconds which was even faster than this previous game.

His new time got him qualified for the Olympics. It also broke the record that he had set during the semi-final.
