Dendy credits his parents for his success and his skills. He shared that his mother always looked after his studies and his father after his performances in track.

Because of his family, he started jumping from a very young age. His father coached him in the tracks ever since he was just an eight-year-old kid. Under the guidance of his father and later his coach Nic Peterson, he became more skilled and a better athlete.

He took part in many championships where he participated in both long jump and triple jump. He has many medals and titles to his name.

He even was part of the American team for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro but couldn’t make it to the game because of his injury. However, this time Dendy is all set up and is hopeful of bringing gold home.

Education

Though Dendy came from a family with a sports background, his mother was very strict about his education. She always made sure he was doing his studies well.

Dendy went to Middletown High School in Delaware. Once high school was over, he joined the University of Florida to continue his further studies and graduated in 2017.

Career

Dendy started jumping ever since he was just eight years old. His father guided him and coached him until high school. 

During his high school, He held records in both the high jump and triple jump. He even took part in the World Junior Championship in 2010 and ranked eighth in the triple jump.

In the same year, he also took part in USA Outdoor Track and Field in the Junior category. He came second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.

He kept working hard and showed more great performances in the field during his games. 

He took part in the NACAC Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the triple jump and became its champion. It earned him the title of Delaware Outstanding Athlete in 2014.

He again took part in the same championship the next year and defended his championship title. He won the game and also set the meet record with 8.88 m in the triple jump. Though 3.7m was due to wind, it still was his best performance.

He even got selected for the 2016 Olympics in the long jump. However, he had to pass the opportunity because of his leg injury. He did not let his injury hold him back, and he kept practicing until he got selected for the 2020 Olympics for the triple jump.

Though Dendy is in the limelight for his performances in the triple jump, he also has an excellent career in the long jump. He took part in the NACAC Championship in 2012 and 2018 and in the World Indoor Championship in 2018 to perform in the long jump. He won gold in all of these games.

Injury

During the trials for the Olympics of 2016, Dendy suffered an injury in his right leg during the final.

He got injured when he was taking off for his fourth jump. The injury was unfortunate, but it did not break his confidence. Just after the injury, Dendy tweeted to break the long jump record the following year.
