Accident on the set of Rust
Rust was the recent project of 2024, on which Souza was working. Everything was fine until October 21, when the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins who was working as a director of photography, died.
The accident occurred after the assistant director handed over a prop gun to actor Alec Baldwin while shooting for Rust.
Neither the assistant director nor Baldwin was aware that the gun was loaded. So, they just went with the shooting.
However, during the shoot, when Baldwin fired the gun, bullets hit both Hutchins and Souza.
Hutchins got fatally hit on her chest, but Souza was lucky enough to get hit on the shoulder.
Since Hutchins was seriously injured, a helicopter got chartered to take her to the hospital, while Souza was comparatively fine so, he got taken by ambulance.
Hutchins did not make it and took her last breath, but Souza returned home alive.
This incident shook the entire film industry to its core and drew attention towards safety during the shoots.
