Monson earned her high school degree from Amery High school in her hometown. Once high school was over, she enrolled in the University of Wisconsin to a degree in nutritional science.

Monson started her journey as a runner in middle school.

She took her fun for running a step further after reaching high school. She started competing in cross country and long-distance running.

She has been a consistent runner from her high school and took part in many national-level competitions.

After graduating from high school, she continued her career as a runner. She has won many medals in different competitions.

In 2016, she won bronze in the USATF Junior Championship in cross country. The same year, she also received the WIAA Scholar athlete award.
