Benjamin attended Mount Vernon High school for his high school degree.

After high school, he initially enrolled at the University of California in Los Angeles. He was there for a year before transferring to the University of Southern California.

He graduated in 2019 from the University of Southern California with a degree in political science.

Career and Olympics

The three-time Pac-12 winner initially started his career in football as a quarterback. However, his high speed got discovered while playing football, and he moved to sprinting and hurdling.

He then started to run for his high school in its track and field team. During his high school days, he had the fastest time in the USA in the 400m hurdles and 400m races. He also held the third fastest outdoor record.

He even was the three-time New York State Public high school athletic association champion.

He was already a star athlete in his high school and continued his passion for running even in college.

Once in college, he competed in the NCAA Outdoor Championship and won sixth place. He kept improving his performance on the track and won silver in the Outdoor 400m hurdle and 4x400m relay the following year.

He was getting better and better each year, and his number of wins was also increasing. In 2018, he turned pro after signing a contract with Nike. 

As a professional athlete, he won gold in both 400m hurdle and 4x400m relay and became the 72nd athlete to break the 20s record in the 200m race during Meeting Areva.

The following year, Benjamin also competed in the Mt. SAC Relays and completed the 400m run with the 50th fastest time. During this game, he even became the 4th fastest. In the same year, he also competed in the World Championship to win silver in the 400m hurdle and gold in the 4x400m relay.

Benjamin then competed in the 2020 US Olympics trial games and secured his place in the national team.

He represented the USA in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and earned two medals. He won silver in the 400m hurdles, and just a few days after, he won gold in the 4x400m relay.

Issues

Initially, Benjamin ran for Antigua and Barbuda as his father was native to these areas. But since he was born in the USA, he wanted to run for the USA.

However, he represented Antigua and Barbuda in the World Youth Championship. Because of this, his transfers got suspended by the IAAF in 2017.

The star athlete then requested to reinstate him to represent the USA. His request finally got approved in 2018. and ever since then, he has been representing the USA.
