Career

The 27 years old Olympian started his career on the track since his high school.

During his high school, he won third place in 400m hurdles in the World Junior Championship. Next year, he again competed in the same event to become its winner.

He was already an All-American star when he graduated from high school. So, he continued running on the track even in college. While still in college, he claimed the National champion title in 2014. It also made him the Gatorade state athlete of the year.

Just after a year of this, he bagged second place during the Pan American Junior Championship. It was just the start as he added two ACC championship titles to his name.

He also competed in the NCAA Division I Championship for three years, from 2016 to 2018. In the championship of 2018, he came second with 48.12, which set a record in the history of his college.

Selmon also tried for the 2016 Olympic trials but could not qualify after coming in the seventh position.

However, he did not let this stop his athletic career. Once he graduated from his college, he turned professional by signing a contract with Spyder Korea. He then represented the USA in the Athletics World cup held in 2018 and won a gold.

While still active on tracks, Selmone was also pursuing his side career. He worked as an intern for Virgent Realty and Coca-Cola. He also worked as the co-director in Buzz Rides.

Though he was pursuing another career option outside the track, he still had his passion for running. So, when the Olympic trials started, he competed in the 400m hurdles and secured a place in the US Olympic team by winning second place.

He then flew to Tokyo with his team and had a great game during the heat, where he came second. But sadly, his journey in the 2020 Olympics was cut short after coming in fourth place during the semi-final.

Despite being hurt, Selmon was still proud of reaching the semi-final and thanked everyone for their support.
